I'm really pleased to announce that Sarah Hayhurst, Peter Foggitt and David Burrowes are making a welcome return to the Memorial Hall on Monday evening 23 May with a new programme of poetry, prose and music - on this occasion featuring words and music from 1917-1945.

The evening will begin with poems by Edward Thomas, a native of Weald, who died in 1917 in France, and will finish with excerpts from T.S.Eliot’s ‘Four Quartets’. Other writers to be featured will include, D H Lawrence, T S Eliot, Virginia Woolf, John Masefield, W H Auden and Rudyard Kipling. Music to be played is composed by Sir Edward Elgar, Sir William Walton, Frederick Delius, John Ireland, Sir Arnold Bax and Ernest Moeran.

This concert is another in the series to raise funds for the purchase of the Broadwood Boudoir Grand piano for use in the Memorial Hall. If you would like tickets, which are £15 including supper, contact me at wealdnews@hotmail.com or call 01732 454222.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
