Will you join us for the West Kent Mind Cold Water Challenge this month? While it may be challenging at first, with practice, a cold shower can be a relaxing and mindful start to your day. Ready to get started?

During Mental Health Awareness Week, our Counselling Coordinator and Volunteer Counsellor Anna, shared a photo of open water swimming, explaining how much it calmed and grounded her.

Although Anna started open water swimming as a child, she didn’t realise the benefits it was giving her until she went through a particularly stressful time several years later.

For Anna, open water swimming – and cold water, in general – has been a transformative experience that she has now incorporated into her routine.

This month, Anna has invited everyone to experience the benefits cold water brings us by challenging everyone to take part in the West Kent Mind 30-day Cold Water Challenge from 1-30th July.

As well as increasing energy levels and metabolism, and building a stronger immune system, research shows that taking a cold shower in the morning also has the power to reduce low moods, and increase mental resilience.

While you may find it challenging at first, with practice, a cold shower can be a relaxing and mindful start to your day.

We’d love to hear your progress throughout the challenge, so tag us in your posts on social media and share your thoughts using the hashtag #WKMColdWaterChallenge.
