OTFORD Twinning Association will be holding their AGM at 7.30pm on Monday in the Woodman Public House to report on activities of 2017 and share their plans for 2018. All present, past, and future members will be made very welcome. ED Thompson will give an illustrated talk about Bat and Ball Station at 8pm on Wednesday January 17 in the Memorial Hall. This is the story of Bat and Ball Station, the first railway station to serve the town of Sevenoaks. Adult subscription is £10, no charge for under 16’s and visitors are welcome at £3 each per meeting. 1940’s SOCIETY will host a talk at 8pm on Friday January 26 in the Memorial Hall entitled "Medway Queen, The Heroine of Dunkirk" by Pat and Mark Bathurst. On the May 27 1940 the Medway Queen, a seaside paddle steamer beloved of day-trippers, was ordered to the beaches of Dunkirk ‘to embark some troops that would be waiting there’. During the following days she rescued 7,000 men, and completed seven trips which was a record for a ship below the size of destroyer. Her endeavours entered legend. Pat and Mark tell her incredible story from ‘sunken wreck’ to restored ‘Dunkirk Heroine’. You are invited to go along to hear her story, entry £3 with tea, coffee and cake served during the interval. OTFORD Gardeners' Society start the 2018 season at 8pm on Tuesday February 6 in the Memorial Hall with a Buffet Supper Evening. This is an informal gathering, open to all, with some light refreshments. The new schedule of speakers, shows and events will be available and everybody is welcome. SEVENOAKS District Council, as part of their garden waste collection service will collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free throughout January but only if the trunk is up to 90mm in diameter. Just leave your tree by the boundary of your property where you would usually put your refuse and recycling sacks by 7am on the day the Council’s Garden Waste Collection service visits your road. If your tree is too big for this service you can take it to one of Kent County Council’s Household Waste Recycling sites.
