    RSPB, Sevenoaks local group, will meet at 7.45 tonight (Thurs 4th) in the Memorial Hall when Robert Canis will give a talk entitled ‘The Best of the Year’ – finest images of nature he has taken. Group members £2.50, non-members £3.50. If you would like more details please contact 01959 563530.

    OTFORD Evening WI meet at 7.30pm in the Club Room of the Memorial Hall on January 11 when Paul Beard will talk about the work of the Barnardo’s Children’s Charity. Subscriptions will also be due at this meeting. If you would like to join or hear more about this Institute please contact their President 01959 524831.

    OTFORD & District Historical Society meet at 8pm in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday January 17 when Ed Thompson will talk about ‘Bat & Ball – Sevenoaks first Railway Station.’ Adult subscription is £10, no charge for under 16’s and visitors are welcome at £3 each per meeting.

    OTFORD Twinning Association will be holding their AGM at 7.30pm on Monday January 15 in the Woodman Public House to report on activities of 2017 and share their plans for 2018. All present, past, and future members will be made very welcome.

    1940’s SOCIETY will host a talk at 8pm on Friday January 26 in the Memorial Hall entitled "Medway Queen, The Heroine of Dunkirk" by Pat and Mark Bathurst. On the May 27 1940 the Medway Queen, a seaside paddle steamer beloved of day-trippers, was ordered to the beaches of Dunkirk ‘to embark some troops that would be waiting there’. During the following days she rescued 7,000 men, and completed seven trips which was a record for a ship below the size of destroyer. Her endeavours entered legend. Pat and Mark tell her incredible story from ‘sunken wreck’ to restored ‘Dunkirk Heroine’. You are invited to go along to hear her story, entry £3 with tea, coffee and cake served during the interval.

    COMMUNITY Warden Surgeries are held each week by Paul between 11am and 12 noon each Tuesday in the School House, High Street. Call in to see him or contact him on 07813 713366 if you have any local problem you wish to discuss.

    OTFORD Parish Council is looking for volunteers to join their Speedwatch Team. They are looking to create a list of willing volunteers and a co-ordinator to maintain the list and call out the volunteers for sessions.     CHRISTMAS tree recycling is being offered by Sevenoaks District Council as part of their garden waste collection service and they will collect and recycle your real tree for free throughout January but only if the trunk is up to 90mm in diameter. Just leave your tree by the boundary of your property where you would usually put your refuse and recycling sacks by 7am on the day the Council’s Garden Waste Collection service visits your road. If your tree is too big for this service you can take it to one of Kent County Council’s Household Waste Recycling sites.
